Everyday I get to bed I leave the phone charging until 7am. I have a bixby routine which enables the 85% limit and disable it 30min after waking up so the battery isn’t staying at 100% all night.

The battery health is at 100% and the charging cycles count is at 170.

adb shell dumpsys battery (mSavedBatteryAsoc and the 3 first digit of mSavedBatteryUsage)

Device is pretty new and bought it on April. Is a S21 FE

All batteries deteriorate over time. This deterioration is faster for batteries that are charged above 85%. However, it is your phone and obviously you should use it how you need it. If you actually need 100% then that’s just how it will be.

Overnight charging can pose more of a fire hazard sometimes, so it’s best to charge up before you sleep and then top up in the morning perhaps.

Does the battery deteriorate even if I take it off charge as soon as it hits 100%?

Yes it will deteriorate faster than just charging to 85% because pushing in the energy between 85%-100% takes a lot of work for a charger. That’s why you might notice your phone charges quickly from 50% to 85% but slows down the charging rate a lot as it reaches 100%.

Still, if you find you need the full 100% battery charge to last a day then it’s worth charging to 100%. If in a day you only use day 40% battery then just charge to 85%.

Alright thank you. I used to think the problem comes from leaving it on charging even when it reaches 100%

Bad idea. You lose but a couple of percentage over night, and topping it up in the morning, let’s say 6% charge, is far worse for the battery then just leaving it be

Of course, I agree. We are talking about for people needing it to be 100% for the day for their very heavy use.

Basically charge to 100% however they like, just not keeping it charged overnight for fire safety and the pressure of trickle charging at 100% for a long period of time.
