I bought a 256GB refurbished Steam Deck 1 month ago. Now the same model, new, costs less then what I paid for the refurbished one.

This way Valve won’t let us sell our current Steam Deck for a good price.

And I would really like the new Steam Deck OLED, of course. It’s just better and, Valve knows, it brings what everyone didn’t like about the original Steam Deck. A better screen quality, better battery life, better WiFi.

YouTubers etc tested the device for a week before the announcement. They knew it. And of course a new device takes time to be developed.

What I mean is that they could have let us know about the new release a lot earlier instead of just a week earlier. I would have waited and I’m sure many other people too.

That’s a bad behavior and we have to do something.

Valve can’t disappoint us like this.

They should at least propose a trade in program.

Every computer is obsolete and overpriced as soon as you buy it. Grow up and deal with it.

Have you tried contacting Valve customer support? They may offer to refund the price difference

Don’t be angry, and don’t be sad. Think about the positive side - you have a Steam Deck, and it didn’t get any worse just because new revision was released. Don’t sell it, just use it and have fun - it’s still the same great device as before.

“They could have let us know about the new release a lot earlier”

Bro they had no idea when you in particular were going to buy one.

Trust me, this release isn’t personal. Stop taking it so.

    Google: FOMO

If you let tech releases make you feel bad just because you have the “last years best model” instead of the “this years best model” - you are doing something wrong.

Dont let corporations into your mind like that.

What you feel just means their marketing works. They hit your “wanna have” mind with “look at this shiny thing”.

You guys gotta realize they just released a “new steamdeck” with the same chipset as the old steamdeck. I get the frustration but think of it this way: New steamdeck = more buyers = steam hardware survey becomes more balanced between PC handhelds and actual PCs = Devs are more likely to make game run well on steamdeck. It’s a win for all of us.

I’m so frustrated tbh I never thought I’d afford one I got some money back I was owed from disability and thought ah I’ll get something I wouldn’t be able to afford normally then 6 days after the return period they dropped this and it’s £180 less. That’s a LOT of money and I’m ready to never use steam again. I messaged and got no help I really do not think we should just accept this it feels so wrong? That might not be much money for them but to most people it’s a lot.

Wow, you really be missing the point if you think it’s about having the latest and best. It’s about the third of the value drop for the last time.

If it was £1,000 and it dropped £180 I’d say far enough, but buying something for it’s value to drop by a third is disgusting imo and that is an opinion I’m allowed so find something better to do you absolute loser.

I sympathize with your feelings, I would probably feel the same way.

That’s how the tech world works though, with time better and cheaper products come out, if you want the best deal you should wait for a new product and get the previous gen, if you don’t want to wait you should buy it when it comes out.
The longer you wait the bigger the chance for a new version coming out in the immediate future is, which in turn means you get a bad deal.
If you bought a phone last year for $500 the phone you buy this year for that money probably is significantly better.

This is kind of predictable behavior, we don’t have the insights on what companies do and it would be financially unwise for them to tell you, but you know this is how it is, so you should make your purchases with these considerations in mind.
You still got an amazing product at a good value all considering, you took a calculated risk and you decided that your purchase is worth it, this is the same when trading stock, you calculate the risk and make a purchase knowing that the value can change at any time not in your favor.

If you want to turn a bad situation into a good one, hold on to the deck for a few decades, you might be able to sell it for a profit eventually.

Enjoy your steam deck, it’s still a lovely device at a good value 🙂
