Had to turn off ‘Always On’. This is the feature that made the series 5 seem like an upgrade to me. But with battery capacity at 81%. I can’t rely on watchOS 10.1.1.1 to get me through the day.
Hold on for a month more probably and then when it goes below 80, have the battery replaced from Apple. It costs 79 bucks and chances are that you will get a new, apparently refurbished watch back. That’s what I did last month.
The 80% rule is for free replacements with Apple Care+. If you’re paying for battery replacements, you can do it at any point.
Weird. Mine is at 71% capacity and battery isn’t horrible. Lasts my entire shift. I’ll throw it on the charger when I get home for a few minutes and put it back on if I go out. But nothing so bad that I have to disable the always on display.
I keep “Always On” turned off because I hated the fucking burn-in my Series 5 had developed. Any time I’d bring up Settings or Notifications or Control Center (anything with a dark background) I would see the shapes of my watch face still. Loading a light image would make it quite visible that “shadows” of my old watch face & compilation weren’t going anywhere.
I got my watch replaced for free under Apple Care, and I hope to keep this new Series 5 in better shape.
My S5 is at 74%, but I think I’ll get a replacement battery by the end of the year. If I know beforehand it’ll be a long day, I’m using power saving mode and it’s fine, otherwise it’s done after a usual day.
where do i find this toggle? i can’t see it on my SE1
SE doesn’t have it
SE inherits it’s 0led display from the older series 4’ This panel does not support low refresh rates required to use AOD without putting significant drain on the battery
My Series 5 is also at 81% capacity. I’ve had Always On turned off pretty much since I got it since I use it all day and wear it at night for sleep tracking. I’m charging it twice a day right now. I wish battery replacement wasn’t so expensive, the watch is only worth $90 to Apple but a battery is $99. Trying to hold out till next year for the supposed redesign but I’m barely making it through the day sometimes now.
dont know why we accept charging our apple watches multiple time a day. when traditionally watches usually need battery changes annually, or even longer depending on the type of battery and watch, Garmin, Sunto seem to hold their own when it comes to battery endurance. Even android wear watches can run for multiple days without requiring a charge…
S6 was doing really well then decided to drop 3% battery health in one week from 83% to 80% . Now I keep AOD off and I still get about 26 hours of life . With AOD it’ll end the day at 20% .
Heh, Series 5 here as well. I recently turned Always On back on, because I figured what the hell, I’m charging it multiple times a day anyway (I work out twice a day on most days).
u/pdlillie please can you update this if you get it serviced by Apple and let us know how it goes? I’m in the UK also, my S6 is on 82% so I’ll probably follow suit soon :)
I am hoping 10.1.1.1 will improve my battery life on my series 5 … 87% battery health here and will get apple to replace the battery when it does finally drop below 80% Currently with AOD and raise to wake I can just squeeze 18 hours. AOD off and raise to wake, squeeze 24 hours
Crazy part is, I dislike AOD on the Apple Watch but love it on the iPhone. It’s odd.
Always on hasn’t been on a single day on my watch or phone.
I personally don’t see the use for it.
And is saves battery.I rock theatre cinema mode while I’m at home and AOD when Im outside or in the gym so I could quickly glance at time when I need it, batery lasts 1,5 day on series 7
My Series 6 is at 87% Battery Health and can do a workout and get through most of the day if I get home before like 9pm.
The five was the first with always on. I maintain it’s just bad. Mine was the same as OP.
I just saw there is an update that says “addresses issue making the battery drain faster for some users”
Maybe that sentence needs a comma. “addresses issue, making the battery drain faster for some users”…
That’s WatchOS 10.1.1 which OP is already on :)
My series 6 lasts me full day with AOD, but rise to wake turned off, try that
I sometimes disable raise to wake and AOD on, but I find I do miss raise to wake and accessible gestures dont work without raise to wake which I find really handy
