Many modern games support HDR on PC these days, but I was thinking about how many games I will play on the Deck that will actually run great without streaming and that have native HDR support.

Games like Cyberpunk or God of War will be cool, but I would play them mostly on my main rig as I tend to use the Steam Deck mostly for older AAA or indies.

I feel like Ori Will of the Wisps will be a showcase game on the Steam Deck OLED as it will both run great and look amazing. It’s the most impressive game in HDR that I’ve seen full stop. But which other games will be able to run at great frame rates and have native support? I can think of a few:

- Deep Rock Galactic
- Armored Core (heard it runs well),
- Tetris Effect Connect - This didn’t run great through Epic for me when I tried it though, but the HDR is very impressive, maybe Steam version would run better.
- Shadow Warrior 2
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider I think runs pretty well. It has great HDR.
- RE engine games like DMC 5 are gonna be even more amazing

I also guess there won’t be auto HDR since it’s a Windows thing which is a shame, but maybe something similar will be possible on Steam OS as well, that would be awesome. Wouldn’t put it past Valve to fix that.

How did you get it to work on Deck? It is not automatically detecting that it has HDR in the deck settings

I assume it has to do with how HDR is enabled in the game. In order for it to work in windows you have to enable HDR before you start the game and the game itself has no HDR toggle built in. This is likely why it can’t be enabled but this is purely speculation from me

Well, the game does have an HDR toggle in the settings, I just think it works in a weird way. Instead of actually turning it on or off, it checks to see if Windows HDR is on, and if both are “Yes” it actually enables.

I swear in the deck quick settings you used to have the “Enabled HDR if monitor supports it” but that is gone it seems.
