Hello, I got my 14900K and I have it on a Z790 Maximus Hero paired with 32GB RAM G. Skill F5-7200J3445G16GX2-TZ5RK.
When I activate the XMP profile for 7200MHz and start Cinebench R23, Y-cruncher VST or Memtest86 outside of Windows (directly from the BIOS), the computer freezes, no error, I left like that for an hour and eventually I have to power it off using the power button. I got it stable and working by lowering the frequency to 6000MHz while keeping the timings of the XMP profile. Anything above that 6000MHz freezes the computer.
Do you have any ideas for solving this behavior?
BIOS updated to the latest version 1402, same for the Intel ME.
Jesus so much bad advice
For now, Just leave everything to default except let’s focus on the root of the issue - internal memory controller You need a little more consistent voltage to help
Set Xmp defaults - make sure all the defaults take from the Xmp profile
Change Vddq to 1.35 System agent to 1.35
You should not need more - and you can drop system agent to 1.30 then again to 1.25 etc if stable until it’s not
Report back
But note - heat could also be causing this - ddr5 runs hot. If this doesn’t help then most likely it’s heat. Then either add cooling to the memory or drop the speed until it’s stable.
Thank you for the answer.
I set the SA voltage to 1.35.
DRAM VDDQ is automatically set to 1.4 from the XMP profile. Do you mean IVR Transmitter VDDQ voltage?
Still unstable.
