I’ve had my Series 4 sinch launch. Totally fine with it and not looking to upgrade. But after updating my Series 4 to WatchOS 10, I’ve been having battery drain issues. Prior to the update, I get home from work around 6pm with 50% battery left. Now, the watch is dead at 10am. I updated to 10.1 hoping for a fix but then, the watch won’t boot up.
Went to the Apple Store and got a Series 9. It sucks that a software update made my watch unusable.
Did the same recently with my Series 4 but jumped to the Ultra 2. Battery seemed fine until os10, then had a steep drop off. Was trying to weigh whether a battery replacement or putting the money towards a new watch would be better, I chose the latter. Hope the 9 lasts you just as long or longer than your 4! c:
Nice. I’ve thought of going for the Ultra 2 but I had the 40mm watch and would like to keep using my bands.
Ah, completely understandable, I wouldn’t want to have to restart my band collection again either.
Battery life is what pushed me over the edge, I considered if I’m going to be using the watch over the next five years again or more, at least I won’t have to worry as much when the battery does degrade in health. Ending my days with about 70% left now even with a workout and AOD on, it’s pretty fantastic! I could probably get way more life if I turned AOD off though.
Also complete side note! Saw you also like animal crossing!!! :D
Wasn’t planning on updating my 4 to wOS 10, which is why I was so stoked woot had a refurb sale today!! So I have a gold 7 on the way and I’m actually gonna activate the watch cell service now too! Want to see if I can leave my phone at home more often.
Congrats! My Series 4 was a Cellular but deactivated the plan during the pandemic since I was mostly at home. Never felt the need to reactivate. This time I just went for the GPS model.
I just read that 4s are NOT the only series experiencing battery issues on wOS10! Apparently some 7s and 9s are too, so careful out there upgrading older models to current software! Apple is SO MUCH BETTER at this than most companies, but their hardware is so durable for me that at some point I have to turn off auto-updates and make backups in case I manually to a release that breaks something.
