honestly i have been dying for this day. currently dual booting my PC because i cant seem to manage 4k hdr on linux . i couldnt manage to cross 4k 60hz (maybe i am dumb? but it wasnt very straightforward thanks to driver issues) or HDR on my linux boot. with this news, i am one step closer to getting rid of my windows install (no hate to windows users).

but seriously, the biggest win of this announcemet, is not the oled screen for me, but the wider impact on linux gaming in general… here’s to hoping this seeps into other distros soon

Steam is pushing Linux gaming more forward ahead in a year and a half, than all those 15 previous years of promises of “this is Linux year”.

I think current implementation is only in game mode (gamescope). I believe KDE team was also working on bringing HDR. May be that will be implemented before valve releases steam os generally.

      True!

But hopefully more people will join the KDE fundraiser and KDE developers will be able to have HDR capable hardware so that they can implement proper HDR support.

That’s absolutely great, but it’s only for Gamescope, unfortunately!

Plasma 6 brings it, but it also requires Gamescope.
