Dear fellow SD users,

A trivial, point-blank question. Are you going to upgrade?

As I have the (former) top-of-the-line and non-modded model, I wonder if the improvements of the OLED version justify the price. I believe they do, especially in the long run. What’s your take? Will you hold on what you have or bite the bullet?

Thanks for your replies :)

VERY VERY Tempted to upgrade and I’d say 75% likely that I will. The better screen and battery life really are the main two things I’d wished were better on the original (I have the OG 512 model as well). I use my Deck almost every day and having those improvements would really make an appreciable difference for me.

I really loved my switch OLED when I got it so I think I’m going to upgrade. I enjoy new tech and have enough splurge money saved up. Plus I always have the option to sell my current one.

I completely understand why others wouldn’t want to tho.

Absolutely. I love the Steam Deck but it has the absolute worst screen of any premium handheld on the market. This fixes that problem. So now my Steam Deck OLED will be my primary handheld machine and my Ayaneo 2 will just be for Star Rail and Game Pass.

If I had the money, no doubt. If Valve had a part exchange program I’d seriously consider it. As things stand now, probably not. I’ll just hope to have the money ready for the Deck 2 instead.

Absolutely. The screen on the original Steam Deck was such a huge pain point for me, especially compared to the Switch OLED with its incredible screen right to it, that I ended up selling mine weeks ago.

The Deck OLED fixes this and so many other issues I had with the original device (better thumbsticks, better bumpers, better battery life, etc etc) that it became a no-brainer. The only thing I would change is the option to not have the anti-glare option with the 1TB model, otherwise I’m thrilled with all of the changes they made.

Putting it another way, the Switch OLED made my handheld usage for that console skyrocket. A better screen, battery life, and refined controls will do the same for me with the Deck.

Nah. It’d be nice to have it run longer, cooler, have the deeper colours, lighter weight, larger space(without modding) … But I paid $700 for my Deck. I’d rather spend $150 and get a 1tb drive and stick it in, and if I really feel it’s necessary, (spoiler, I don’t and don’t think I ever will) get the oles screen upgrade mod foe a hundo.

Absolutely! Great Christmas gift to myself, and my room mate is getting my old one for free. Everyone wins!

Probably. I could easily sell my SD for around 400€ in my local market and the rest won’t be much. I don’t really care too much about the new screen, more about the Battery. 1 1/2 hrs on cyberpunk or zelda totk is nice when in bed with a power source but when im on a 4 hr flights with little power it makes me question my purchase sometimes. I also heard that the fan makes less noise which is also nice, especially when playing games like cyberpunk which make the fan run wild sometimes.
