I’m just curious to see how many times it can fall before breaking, or how did you get your Steam Deck to fall

ive fallen asleep while my deck was laying on my legs. when i woke up it was upside down on the ground. When i picked it up there was no damage, even tough the display hit the table leg at the ground.

This post was made because my Steam Deck has fallen twice in 2 months. First time, I was sleeping with the steam deck on the bed, unconsciously turned the other way and smacked my SD on the ground (50 cm circa). Second time was yesterday, I thought I closed the case… Fell down from 60 cm circa, no damage at all so far…

Sat down too fast on the bed next to it, made it jump off the edge and do a roll on the ground. The impact split the side of the case open so I popped it back shut, no apparent damage to screen or sticks. Hasn’t happened again, everything fine.

Couple of low to medium impact drops inside my house. Never sustained any visible damage. One of them was a big enough drop that I was worried but I picked it up and found it in perfect condition still.

12 inch drop into tile floor. Deck landed directly on R1 and broke the button. To be fair though the R1/R2 buttons are extremely fragile and vulnerable the way the buttons are mounted on the PCB and I think this is a pretty common repair issue for the deck.

I got the dbrand skin after that. I tried and returned a few cases from Amazon before pulling the trigger on dbrand. I was immediately blown away by the quality of the killswitch case. I’m glad it’s forwards compatible with the OLED model. I plan on trying to order the limited edition one on Thursday. If I can’t get that version I may just stick with the LCD version. I have

Once. A small drop from my lap to the carpeted floor when our six month old puppy jumped up on me when he got home from an outing with my wife.

The hardware took no damage and everything works perfectly, but one of the plastic clips holding the shell together broke off. The first time I opened it was to find out what the rattling sound was.

Now the right hand side of the casing doesn’t snap all the way together. There’s no visible gap or anything, but it does make a very gentle plastic creaky noise if I squeeze firmly enough and sometimes the right trackpad makes a physical click noise when pressed (as opposed to the haptic feedback of a normal click).

If anyone has any advice for reattaching or replacing the plastic clip (without replacing the entire shell) I’m all ears, but it doesn’t really bother me.

Kinda wish we can have a wrist “lanyard” or something that we can attach to a case so that if it ever gets accidentally knocked out of hands, it’ll dangle instead of falling. I looked into installing cellphone lanyard, but it’s not strong enough to support it. And then there’s the question of where am I even going to install this? I use the JSAUX mod case and don’t see a way of attaching it.

I’ve dropped mine twice by picking up the case that I forgot to zip up. Hardwood floors from table hight. It’s the worst noise in the world but miraculously mine suffered no damage. I 100% attribute this to luck.

      This happened to me once.

Since then, I’ve made absolute sure that I’ve zipped up the case before I pickup up.

Dropped about 4 inches right on to the bumper. Thankfully iFixit sell cheap bumper assemblies.

As a bonus my daughter got a forced lesson in electronics repair.

I was falling asleep while playing Skyrim and I wanted to place it back in its case, and just bumped the side of it into the wall, no damage, no scratches or anything.
