I sometimes just fall asleep and forget to set it, and then I lose a whole night of data. It’s kind of annoying, so is there a way to record sleep automatically?

I set up automations to put my watch in theatre mode about 30 minutes after my usual bedtime and sleep mode about two hours after my usual bedtime. Also to disable sleep mode about an hour before my usual wake time, disable theatre mode about 30 minutes before.

That means that I’m definitely getting wrist temperature readings for 5ish hours, usually including my deepest sleep. But it also means that I don’t have to mess around with manually turning off sleep mode if I stay up a bit late and want to use my watch.

I set my sleep schedule to start at 11:30 and end at 9 am with NO alarms set (I’ll set my own on my watch, they still work regardless of the mode) and it tracks it every night without fail. Even if I got to sleep a little early sometimes it realizes I’m passed out and will record that data too. I’ve even had it record a quick nap at 9-10pm then I got up for an hour, then off to bed at 11 again lol.

I’ve used automation / shortcuts for over a year and it works pretty seamlessly. Just have to set a specific time every night for the shortcut to kick in, and manually flip off sleep mode whenever you wake up

Although I’ve learned if you’re working out when the shortcut kicks in, entering sleep mode will automatically end your workout but I’m rarely working out at 11pm so not a huge deal.
