Hi Reddit! I wanted to share an exciting update to my app - Pal!

At a high level, the app works by using the ChatGPT API. This allows you to use GPT-4 Turbo and DALL-E 3 etc. through the new APIs rather than having to pay a flat $20/month for ChatGPT Plus!

I’ve added support for a lot of the new API announcements:
API Key access to GPT-4 Turbo, GPT-4 Vision, DALL-E 3, and Text to Speech (TTS)

I’ve previously added some nice to have features such as:
- Ability to edit both the question and the AI response (Famously missing in the official app)
- On-device conversation history
- Voice input (New - coming later today!)
- Saving multiple prompts
- Saving multiple system messages
- Ability to adjust the temperature
- See the token length and cost of the conversation

I’ve had an overwhelming amount of positive feedback so am excited to announce these updates that you all requested! This is a free indie app built just for people to try out ChatGPT APIs so I hope you find the app useful!

Of course, the app collects absolutely NO data. You can verify this by going to the app’s App Privacy Report in iOS Settings and see that network calls are only being made to OpenAI. Everything is done on-device.

Please remember to get an API Key from OpenAI!
Remember, GPT3.5/GPT-4 isn’t free, you just pay per use through the API Key instead - with the new API pricing this makes it a lot more affordable than $20/month for most people (not all, but most).

Love the interface. Would you be willing to support iCloud sync for chat history/API keys between devices?

Uh. It’s an interface for using an API. Multiple APIs as a matter of fact.

I mean if you want to make all the API calls yourself using specially crafted URLs, save the output yourself, and take care of everything without a GUI then you go right ahead.

Most online services are accessed using an API and some sort of GUI. I can’t think of many people who would call the GUI “just a wrapper”. I suppose a GUI technically is a wrapper, but the point is you don’t have to remember or make the API calls yourself.

The only alternative is ChatGPT Plus which doesn’t include all the APIs and is a flat fee. This is a client for MacOS that has been steadily improved upon since its initial release, that gives you easy and convenient access to many different APIs.

The developer also makes precisely $0 from this app, it’s something they made for their personal use and then figured they would post and maintain it, for free, in case you also find it useful.

Personally, this is my primary AI client now.
