As cool (including in a literal sense as it’s said to get less hot than the old model) as the new Oled model is, I’m likely far from the only person who doesn’t like how the power button is orange as it sticks out like a sore thumb. I’ve been thinking of simply taking a black sharpie and painting over said button. However, I have been wondering it there is a downside to this, namely by the ink posing a threat to the system. Could it seep inside and cause problems?

Sticking out like a sore thumb is point, seeing as the OG Deck is all black in terms of buttons.

No, but the problem is that Sharpie is not as dark black as the case is, so it’s gonna be really obvious you sharpie’d it.

I bet you could just get a black power button from iFixit and swap it out. I wish I knew you in person, I’d gladly swap you my black button for an orange one.

use a hobby paint from a hobby store made for plastics, and make sure you tape up and seal the gaps so you only color the button. sharpie will wear away rather quickly and it’ll look really bad. at least with plastic paint it’ll last a little while longer.

idk if it’s possible but you should take the whole button out and make sure you apply a very thin coat, just so you don’t have to risk damaging the unit with liquid or a knife trying to tape up/isolate the button from the rest of the shell. it’ll also prevent an orange ring from showing around the paint since you can coat the whole thing.

That or just buy a replacement button but i’m not sure if they retrofit correctly.

I would get a set of black buttons from ExtremeRate on Amazon and just swap the button if you really care that much
