I’ve been using the Steam Deck for a few weeks now. I’m having trouble trying to install apps from Desktop Mode in general, and I’m not sure what the issue is?

What’s happening:

I download the installer from their website. It’s called “emudeck.download.desktop” or something along those lines. I save it to my desktop. When I click on the icon, it asks to Install Emudeck, I click continue. It opens Konsole, and this is where it gets stuck.

The console window’s showing a download screen, and the time taken keeps incrementing (it’s not stuck)… but there’s no download happening. The total % is 0, the the received % is 0, the current speed is 0, everything is 0. After around 2 mins it closes the window, and nothing’s happened. There’s no new icon on the screen, no new application installed, just nothing.

What I’ve tried:

I’ve tried running it on different Wi-Fi networks (2.4 and 5Ghz, mobile hotspots), I’ve restarted my deck, I’ve factory reset my deck, nothing so far. I’m not even sure what the issue is, I think the script is failing to fetch the file that’s on the GitHub repo? But I’m not sure why, or which files that would be.

If anyone has any help/advice I’d much appreciate it!!

PS: I had a tangentially related issue with CryoUtilies where I couldn’t even save the installer to my desktop, but I fixed that by manually downloading it through console. Decky had issues installing on my 5Ghz network too, but swapping to my 2.4Ghz network fixed that. I wonder if this is related?

Update: for anyone else who’s stuck in the same situation, I think I figured it out? The issue was that my internet simply wasn’t downloading from GitHub, but changing my connection from metered (auto) to off fixed it? Not sure why, but I was messing around with a bunch of internet related settings and that’s what seemed to work.
