I had to do a deep dive here and steam removed the firmware update. They provided a workaround that’s workable through windows pc, but I have a Mac so I’m stuck with the dongle.
I did some research and it seems like the code for the firmware update was still buried in Steam up until about three months ago. It’s completely gone now. That sucks :(

Yup, exactly. Which was like less than a month before I got my steam controller lol
