I have been Apple TV user for 6 years and the previous model lasted 5 years without issue. The latest model got from last year just blacked yesterday. And it says ‘recover needed’. Then every time I recover it with my iPhone it dies in the middle and re-start this process.

I wonder what could be the issue and any tips?

Interesting! My Apple TV 4th gen from 2015 is still running, albeit a bit slower than she once did. Just about to hit 8 years old.

Yep we cut the cord December 2015 to celebrate our birthdays. We haven’t had a single problem with it. We’re watching the Formula 1 qualification round in Mexico of the F1TV app. We replaced the remote after it was dropped and cracked. That’s it.

My Apple TV 4K from 2021 (?) died after trying to do the latest update. Told me it needed to recover and I tried multiple times but it wouldn’t go. I contacted Apple and the guy tried to tell me that the icon it was showing me on the screen (phone and Apple TV with Bluetooth) was “an unexpected result” (what?) and basically I just need to take it in to the Apple Store.

We went and bought the new 128gb one and if I ever get around to going and they can fix it, I’ll use it on a different tv. Very frustrated.

I took my Older Apple TV to the Apple Store and they have a special cable that connects to the Internet port to a computer, they were able to do diagnostics then did a hard reboot. It worked after that.

I can concur, my Apple TV 4K would not recover. It was over a year old and Apple replaced it.

Seems like this is a problem with the new update. I might turn auto update off on my 6 gen 2 and 3 tv’s and monitor just the one that did update

Happened to be as well. Left the Apple TV completely unplugged (no Ethernet, hdmi, power) for two days.

Replugged it this morning and it’s alive! I feel it may be because of the pop up volume bug

Same thing happened to 2 of mine. Both back up after constant self reboots all night. (Blinking light) 1st and 2nd gen 4Ks. My 3rd gen didn’t have this issue.

Same thing happened to mine about a month ago. It was 10 days prior to the one year warranty expiring. Took it to an Apple Store and they swapped it out no charge.

what is more shocking is that after being this for a day, it fixed itself! IDK if I should take it to apple or not now.

I had two units do this this week. Both on tvOS 17. One was a 1st gen. The other was 2nd gen. The 2nd was a spare that sat in a drawer. We took it with us when traveling. They got stuck in boot loop.

I just had 2 units, just now, brick at the same time. One mid show, the other while I trying to trouble shoot the first. Also 1st and 2nd gen. My 3rd gen is still working. Came here as soon as it happened. Heading to the Apple Store tomorrow.
