£1700 for an nightmare to repair 8GB piece of junk with thunderport ports that wear out and now dodgy screens. No thanks.

I contacted Apple Support asking for a repair under UK Consumer Laws (specifically England in my case - 6 yrs in England/Wales, 5 in Scotland). I’d already spoken to Apple Support when it first happened, and then taken it to a Genius Bar where they said it would cost a silly amount to fix.

They have asked me to send it in to them with no issues. Of course they may turn around and say it was damaged in some way and refuse… but their legal team does seem to be aware of this problem at the minute and are offering little resistance. They did say there is a longer than usual turn-around time for this issue, whether they meant *this* specific issue or not I don’t know.

Ultimately this is a design flaw issue, so it’s technically covered by UK (and EU) consumer laws. I’ll post if/when it’s resolved succesfully (or otherwise)
