I’ve tried multiple cables and devices, same car charger. Charged my Xiaomi 8T fine for a year, charges A50/A51/S6Lite, only with the A14 it doesn’t work. All other chargers work with the device, no matter the brand. Is there a reason?

It’s the charger, it may be too weak for the phone to like it. Aka: when the phone starts to ramp up the charge current, the charger’s voltage drops at a greater rate than what the phone likes. I fixed this by adding a 4700uF capacitor in parallel to the charger’s output. In my case I used a 12v>5v buck converter module but the charging would start and stop continuously without actually charging. Ever since adding the capacitor, it’s been fine on all devices.

PLEASE do not modify your charger.

You do not seem to understand how USB-C charging works. The phone asks the charger what charging protocols (voltage/current combinations) it can support. Then the phone tells the charger what to send initially, and ask for changes as the charging proceeds. If the charger supports USB PD/PPS mode, then the charger sends the correct voltage level to the phone, and the phone does not have to do any voltage conversion (meaning that the phone does not heat up). If the charger does not support PD/PPS, then the phone will deal with it. The suggestion that “the charger’s voltage drops at a greater rate than what the phone likes” is just not possible unless there is a cable problem where the cable is dissipating too much power itself.

A charger that works with A50/A51 cannot possibly be “too weak” to work with A14.

I might try a different cable. The USB-C cable that came with the phone should be good.

Ah yes. Well I mean that was the solution to my problem. I practically made the whole thing myself. What I meant was that the phone chose not to accept the charger, it is probably more strict in it’s “giving up” parameters. When I try to charge my A33 from my 3m long usb cable and it’s shutoff from being at 0%, the phone refuses to charge. Put it on a normal cable and it’s fine. It’s just that they don’t like charging at less than 1A. I’m talking about 5V here in both replies.
