Retro Game Corps mentioned this in his review that released this morning. He stated that while putting a screen protector on the etched glass did bring back some contrast making the blacks seem darker and colors pop more, there was still some haze that came from the etched glass. I assume this is due to the light from the screen still passing through that etched layer and getting diffused.

In the end he said that he took off the screen protector cause while the colors were better the still existent haze and now noticeable reflections weren’t worth the tradeoff to him personally. He said he will buy a 512GB model so he can compare native glossy against the etched but as of this time we don’t have enough evidence to have a definitive answer.
