This should stay free. Apple should swallow the cost.

It’s one of those things fairly unique on iPhone and it would just be bad optics to say “oh, sorry. your phone will have this life-saving software disable if you don’t pay up”

Plus they don’t want to give Samsung the satisfaction of smugly introducing the feature for free on their phone before charging for it anyway

Only for a little bit more time. SpaceX has already launched hundreds of next-gen Starlink satellites that will give basic cell coverage everywhere on earth. It seems safe to assume they’ll turn it on pretty soon.

But plenty of people died before this was a thing, and plenty of people have died after they introduced it because they didn’t have the latest iPhone or because they have an Android. This is a non-argument. No one would take this headline seriously. How would it even come to be? Would journalists check every person that dies from that point on, and try and discover if they could have been subscribed to this service?

LOL “Thanks for investing all the time and dollars into R&D. Now you should just give away the service for free!”

      Do you work for free?

For a premium €1000+ phone I think such a service could be included in the price. It’s not for free.

Maybe it would mean marginally lower profits for Apple, but it would not be free. It is a service that would be bring value to their products and make them more competitive on the market.

“App store fees should be lower!”
          “Emergency SOS should be free!”
“iCloud should have a higher capacity free tier!”
          “16GB memory should be standard!”

“Sure, all this will lower margins a little. But Apple can afford it!”

Again, do you work for free? Do you give anything awaay for free to add value to your labor, and make yourself more competitive on the market?
