Hi there.

I have fallen in love with the Ultra 1/2.

I do not exercise, mountain climbing, trailing or whatever, so what should I use it for?

The more I think about it, the more I am thinking it could be a waste of money. SO, you who have a watch, what do you use it for, if you are not exercising etc. like me. Are there some hidden useful things I do not know about, that could perhaps persuade me to get one or not?

Also, if I am persuaded to buy one, which model should I choose? 1 or 2?

Thx in advance.

I run 6 days a week. My apple watch would be almost out of battery by the end of my hour run. I listen to the radio while running.

I got ultra and the battery life is great. I recently upgraded to ultra 2. I love this watch. When I complete my run now I have more than 70% battery remaining.

You want it so get it! Do you think that every man that buys a Rolex Submariner or an Omega Speedmaster Moon watch is an ocean explorer or astronaut? Absolutely not! Get what makes you happy. If you buy a 9, you’re going to be wishing you had the Ultra. Go for it!

Do you use every single function of your phone? If not was it a waste?

I bought it because I like the style, size, battery life and because I can afford too, that’s all that matters.

I like the larger screen and the (slightly) better battery life which at least means I can go away overnight or for a weekend without bothering to take a charger. The Modular Ultra watch face is also the only Apple face I like.

I do count steps/walks and exercise bike so it has some use in terms of exercise for me.

On the flip side it’s ugly and I particularly dislike the way they’ve heightened the watch screen by just plonking an extra bit on top of an otherwise normal looking Apple Watch design. I’d like the Ultra 2 more if it didn’t have this plinth looking thing on top of the rounded case.

Personally I wouldn’t get it unless you’re into a lot of athletic stuff.

The ultra is virtually 2x the price, but it comes with a lot of stuff that makes it competitive with garmin and coros for athletes. If you were to buy it and not use it to its potential, you’re getting an identical experience to a series 9 but it’s bulkier and the battery lasts a bit longer.

It also worth mentioning that big watches like these tend to get caught in cuffs and can be pretty annoying at times, you probably wouldn’t even notice a regular series watch mon your wrist most times.

Mostly battery but I do also workout daily. I came from an S5 and the main reason I chose Ultra was battery.

Buy it for all the reasons you want, but maybe start going on some walks outside. It will do you good to get those steps in.

But the ultra 2 doesn’t have wrist down notifications, why? I called Apple like… wtf are y’all thinking? When my phone is in my pocket I want my wrist to notify me if I have someone trying to get through to me

I bought the Ultra because I wanted the larger battery and physical style (compared to the 8 at the time). You don’t have to be a fitness nut to own an Ultra. If you like it and want, it then buy it and do not regret it.

I love the ultra, but I definitely use it. I do long distance running in addition to standard normal exercises, I use it as a backup dive computer when doing recreational diving, I do long hikes that are often off grid.

The biggest thing I like is the extended battery life, on the other watches it could be a bit touch and go if it would fully make it through a long run without making the gps less accurate or something like that.

But other benefits are the titanium and sapphire, my series 8 was scratched up within a few months from just normal bumps, the ultra still looks great 6 months later and this thing has seen some shit.

Make the call that’s right for you and you can afford. If you have 1k in the fuckit category and want it, then get it. The better battery life is really nice even if you aren’t using it to run 30 miles. If it puts you in a worse financial spot or is a stretch I would get a less expensive one.

I’ve been upgrading my Apple Watch every year since their original and went from Ultra 1 to Ultra 2.

    There’s 3 reasons I like the Ultra:

    1. Battery. I can’t even remember the last time I got a low battery notification. I charge once every 2-3 days, and charge while I shower. So I don’t even notice charging it anymore, doesn’t interrupt my flow in any way.
    2. Action Button. That’s the game change. Provides a ton of extra functionality, especially if you configure that button to change based on the time of day/focus mode.
    3. 1 single extra icon/complication. As stupid and small as 1 single extra complication sounds, it’s a big deal on a screen that’s limited in what it can tell you. So I love the bigger screen that allows you to have more icons/widgets on the watch.

There’s a few other small things like the Ultra Wide band is nice for tracking things, as well as the double tap to close things, etc. But yea those 3 things above are well worth the upgrade. It’s all about what you can afford and if those extra features are worth it to you. I upgraded from Ultra 1 to Ultra 2 just because the double tap and precision finding… to others those little things aren’t a big deal to pay money for, to me they are.
