How did you manage to activate AFMF on this game ? I’m on the Preview drivers v3 (the last one in date) with AFMF, and on the Adrenalin panel i can activate AFMF but there is no green light showing it’s active, and no doubling of the framerate ingame (even with Adrenalin overlay). What am i missing ? (i’m on Epic Game, the only launcher to sell the game… so i don’t understand). I’ve was that AMD released a driver the 27th for Alan Wake 2 but it’s a variation of the main line drivers, without AFMF i think.
7900XTX runs this game really well (as it should).
On “high” when rendering at 1440p (so 4k FSR2 quality for me) I can get 90fps or more in most places. When the volumetrics go big time it can dip to 75-80 for a bit, but usually it’s solid.
Surprisingly with RT on high I can get 50-60fps with FSR2 on performance (so 1080p render). So turning a couple RT things down to medium should make for an easy 60fps lock if that’s what you want. I was surprised at this because of the hype and because it says path tracing, but that was what I saw happen.
I’m choosing 90fps because preferring framerate is a big reason I went AMD to begin with, but if you want an RT experience on a super high-end AMD card it seems doable.
I also have a 7900XTX, and I’m getting the same fps but at 1440p - > 1706x960 (FSR 2 quality). shouldn’t I be getting more?..

I would prefer to sell my whole config than to waste my xtx power on upscalers … fuck this choice from the devs, the game is running like shit without fsr even when you disable all the rt/pt stuff … shitty optimisations.

This game runs amazing on my 6950XT. 1440p 60+ FPS average with a 5600x. Do you know how frustrating it is to have a CPU that can’t max out GPU usage in most new games, destroying my performance? Very.
This game gives me 98% GPU usage with my 5600x and looks absolutely incredible with great frametimes. This is the best looking game that has ever been released in human history, not an overstatement.
It doesn’t even look better than Quantum Break, stop capping.

High, native 1440p
Depends on the areas, i get below 60 in the forest with high settings and now i just use fsr quality with high preset. It feels weird using native AA i think it doesn’t look in this game.
I caved in and bought 5800x3d to replace my 5600. The difference is pretty darn huge in some games, even level and save loading in BG3 improved close to 50%.
Do you use FSR quality? As soon as I set FSR to native res my game crashes because of a driver timeout.
No fsr, I’m getting 60+ native in 1440p. You have to add more voltage to the core. I normally can get away with 1100mV and I had to bump it up to 1130mV.
This game also broke my cpu configuration, had to drop my CPU overclock by .05 GHz.
Same exact thing happened to me, driver timeout in the first few min of gameplay. Once you increase the voltage, it’s perfect. If you get a black screen restart, it’s probably the CPU, I got that too (after playing for 20 min or so).
After tweaking my CPU and GPU, this game hasn’t had 1 issue in 4 hours.
This happened to me when I changed a ton of settings at once in-game. Reloaded and changed things on the main menu and never had that issue again.
Ryzen 5 5600 + RX 6700 XT - Medium Preset/FSR2 Quality. Locked it on 60 FPS with VSync, solid 60 where I only experience performance dips after leaving the forest towards the diner.
idk why this game even if I use performance dlss in 1440p, it still looks great compared to cp2077 or other games They usually look blurry too if I go below balanced dlss
My guess is the game is already extremely soft and blurry looking even at native which is a deliberate artistic choice, so the blurriness of lower input resolution doesn’t have as much of an impact.
RDR2 also has a deliberately very soft image that it achieves via the most insanely aggressive TAA i’ve ever seen, and it does make the game look really nice when it’s not smearing textures or leaving ghost trails behind moving objects.
Try to remove depth of field from the config file this removes a lot of blurriness from the game
You can also remove other film effects like lens distortion. The game loses a good bit of its personality though.
30-40fps at 1440p (4K FSR2 Quality) Medium with my RX 6700 XT. I’m playing in HDR and it looks really really good. Low fps doesn’t bother me because my screen has LFC to smooth out (30fps = 60hz, 40fps = 80Hz).
I use default preset at native res 1080p and my 6750xt has 56avg fps. Not too shabby.

I’m super nitpicky with my performance, especially with smooth fps.

Seems like a good release. I’m getting bored of Forza with its plethora of issues, so I think I’ll grab Alan Wake for a change of pace knowing that it should run pretty well.
I think it’s most terrible optimized game that i ever saw in my lifetime. It’s picture are worse than many old titles, such as RDR2, HZD, Metro Exodus, etc - yet somehow it’s giving 1-2 fps max while moving, and 7fps max when standing at the start of the game. And when flashlights show up, it’s down to 1 fps permanently. All of it is on mininal settings.
I know that my rx 580 isn’t the newest card, but it still has 8gb vram and it can run ANY other game without any problems at all. There is no reason for such average-looking game to be so demanding, that it’s straight unplayable on budget segment.

I don’t know what’s “RDX” so i assume it’s a typo for RX. So they list a 6gb RX card as minimal requirements, but the game is unplayable even on 8gb one…
It is really THAT demanding, and i don’t see any good reason for it to be this way.
First of all, your RX 580 doesnt support mesh shaders so poor performance is expected. Second it totally disagree with you, this game is one of the most beautiful game i have ever played (and i played pretty much all the AAA games). The geometric details are insane, the volumetric effects, the lightning, global illumination, shadows, everything is truly next gen. RDR2 (the exemple you gave) isn’t near this game lightning, effects, geometry, or global illumination. And that’s even before enabling RT or pathtracing. I trully think this game optimisation is REALLY GOOD. Don’t get fooled by the graphics presets names because even low settings here is better than most game high settings (your RDR2 included). And talking about optimisation, my OCed 7900xt Can Do max settings 1440p fsr2 quality, with RT maxed out , denoiser maxed out, and path tracing indirect lightning at medium, and i get around 42-50fps before AFMF and 80-100fps with AFMF on most part of the game and intown. The most demanding area is the forest which dips to 60-65fps with AFMF. That’s impressive for an AMD cars WITH PATHTRACING enabled. So yes this game is demanding, but the graphics are worth the demand, and the optimization IS really good in my opinion. Sorry that your 580 isn’t cutting it in this game, but you have to have realistic expectations.
The shadow in this game without RT is a blocky mess 90% of the time and it’s very distracting
Imma say it. FSR sucks in a lot of titles and my next gpu buy will depend on if they can improve image quality.

Ray tracing is such an overrated feature to have. 90% of the time is a waste of performance that could’ve improved the game graphic in a more significant way.
