Hello everyone. I am wanting to get some advice regarding which tablet to get, and can’t really find any resources that answer the question I have.

My 7 year old son has asked for a tablet for Christmas. I had gotten him I think the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 a couple years ago. Might have been an A6? I can’t find it currently. The charging port is broken in it, so it hasn’t been able to be charged for a year.

Anyway, the previous galaxy tab was a turd. It was slow, and we were constantly having to clear stuff out of it, even just putting all the apps on a memory card. And it only had maybe 5 apps, like YouTube, Khan Academy kids, PBS, stuff like that. I do not want to repair the tablet and give it back to him, just because it was not a good tablet (I didn’t think I would need to pay for the premium S7 at the time, so I guess I learned my lesson).

We have no Apple products, and all the recommendations I have gotten are for another A7, or for an iPad. I would be fine with giving him an iPad, but my husband doesn’t want to just because we have no Apple products or experience. So I guess I have narrowed it down to the S9.

What he wants: a tablet that let’s him draw on it and play some games. What I want: something that runs well and quickly. I am also excited he wants to use it for drawing (so any recommendations on good drawing apps is also appreciated). I also want it to last, and allow him to play games, like maybe Minecraft or something, and be able to be connected to a keyboard. A headphone jack would be a plus, but not a requirement. And a MUST is wireless charging. The A7 doesn’t have it, I tried when the port broke. The port broke we are thinking from big grabbing it and not realizing it was on the charger, and then taking off. So instead of being removed from the charger, it was actually being yanked out. We aren’t wasteful, and I do plan on getting the port fixed and giving the tab to my mom for playing solitaire and any of the things she may do on the internet, which isn’t much. Also, is it fairly easy to get a replacement S Pen? My husband and I both have S23 ultras, and kid misplaced husband’s S Pen once (I found it a couple months later). So I figure he would probably misplace the pen for the tablet too.

I am looking at the s9+ and the s9 FE. I haven’t been able to figure out how to compare it for what we want. I will be adding it to our wireless plan so it can work outside of the home. The A7 was wifi only, but we never really took it out of the house anyway. We decided we would like for him to have that option.
