Currently I have a Samsung 65” from a few years ago and a Samsung soundbar and rear speaker system with Atmos. Like a lot of people, I have to choose between Atmos and no HDR video, or HDR video and no Atmos, because my slightly older TV won’t detect and passthrough the Atmos audio over ARC.

Are there brands of TVs that aren’t crazy expensive like TCL that have eARC that will actually let me have my cake and eat it, too? I’m not interested in going the AVR route, although I’d consider replacing the soundbar/speaker system with another similar thing if it would pass through HDR.

My Vizio’s have handled it well. They’re not great tvs or anything, but that capability really isn’t very elusive… unless I’m missing something.

Even Apple’s support doc on it makes it seem like it is, as do searches about the issue, and since TV specs don’t specify this point, I want to make sure I’m getting a new TV that won’t make this a hassle.

Then again, I plan to get a new Vision Pro when those come out and will probably watch a lot of content that way so maybe I’ll hold off…

Just do HDR with no Atmos. Atmos basically does nothing for you unless you have speakers in a 3D space.

Atmos soundbars are a complete gimmick unless it has remote speakers above your head.
