My iPhone 14 pro was was stolen by a pickpocket. The thief departed the area with lightening speed and was on the other side of town within an hour in heavy traffic. Since then phone has moved occasionally but largely lying down at couple of spots. Switched on for twice of couple of mins but mostly switched off.

I sent someone with an iphone to the area where the phone was last seen and immediately got notifications on find my of phone being in the area. The pings were between two buildings (residential/commercial) so no reliable way of knowing where exactly it was.

Now the phone has moved to a building with bunch of shops (restaurants/mobile repair shops/gaming arcade). I went to that place and got a bunch of notifications but it was difficult to zero-in on a particular shop. After I came back, I got notifications till midnight and then it stopped. I went back to the same place early morning and couldn’t get a ping. However, now I have started getting notifications again with the phone in the same location.

  • Sometimes I don’t get any notifications for a long while. But when I disable and enable “Notify when found” option, I immediately get a notification that “iPhone 14 pro was just seen”.

  • Is it possible that phone has moved to a different location with other iphones passing by it, but the location is not updated on find my?

  • Is there a range for the beacon when phone is switched off? Or a particular period at which it tries to connect? Phone has sufficient battery. It was at 80% when switched off and has been switched on for only couple mins since.

I was hoping that the phone ends up in a shop where I can go in as a customer and verify the location and then call police.

I also noticed on youtube there are some ways to jailbreak iPhone 14 too. After jailbreaking can the thief use another apple id to log in?

There are no ways to jailbreak an iPhone 14, the YouTube videos are scams (anything above iOS 16 on modern phones isn’t able to jailbreak )

Also keeping screenshots of the lost device last/current location never isnt bad idea. They can help the police to find the thief.

Thank you. Doing that and logging all locations it popped up on. I am hoping that it ends up in a repair shop which will make it easier to get it with help of the police.
