It’s been 3 months since I have my new pc :

Intel Core i5-12400F 6 Cores, 2,5GHz

16GB of RAM

Geforce RTX 3060

The thing is, everything I do on my computer is so slow ! I freeze and crash everytime I switch between my different programs, everytime I try to launch a game, everytime I make something on my computer!

More than that, when I look at the task manager with steam, browser and discord open the cpu use doesn’t even reach 20%!

Everytime I launch a game that use a lot of ram and cpu I make sure to close my browser and every other useless programs but nothing helps!

Please tell me someone have a solution cause I feel like using a janky computer while it’s completely new.

The first one is my browser

Is your operating system on a ssd? System updates and drivers current? Have you checked the CPU socket for bent/missing pins? As a last resort try a fresh install of windows.

Yeah general computing shouldn’t be an issue for you. Is this a fresh install of windows? That can do wonders for problems like this, if it hasn’t been done in a while. Otherwise, ssd issue perhaps, you can use crystaldiskinfo to check drive health. Or, a temperature problem somewhere, are you monitoring temperature? I use hwmonitor. There’s also hwinfo which is what most people would recommend.

I tried hwinfo and everyting was green. The thing is I’m on SSD.

I freshly installed windows and I’m considering re installing it…

You don’t have “really good hardware”. It’s mid at best. However, what you are experiencing is not normal and most likely your PC is infected with a crypto miner.

You will have to format your PC and reinstall Windows.

Well you don’t need to ditch the SSD but a modern Windows should never be on a mechanical drive. Newer games also demand SSDs more and more so check their requirements as well. Ideally HDDs are only used as a data grave, not for things that actively read and write things frequently

Why would any system builder put windows on an HDD in 2023? Why even have the option? Theyre adding to their own support queue because folks like OP will be confused why their new system is slow. Unless of course they could care less…

Again, don’t be rude just because I don’t know everything about computer hardware. I would have never found out the problem was HDD just by looking on the internet.

If you’re having frequent crashes, unless the HDD is failing it is not the problem.

I think you should consider updating the BIOS to the latest version, set your RAM speeds to default like 4800 or so, and make sure all overclocking or “ai overclocking” options are all turned off or set to intel recommended instead of auto/asus recommended/overclocked and so on.

I noticed that a lot of asus’s auto or overclock options can be unstable and require careful tweaking one option at a time to determine if it’s truly stable.

Thanks for your concern about my issues I didn’t think I would have so much help !

I have to give more precise things about my computer since I saw how everybody talked about SSD :

I have HDD Seagate BarraCuda 4 To (ST4000DM004)

My pc got built by LDLC (french company) it’s well known and has always been really professionnal so I don’t think the issue would be the build process.

I make everything possible to have my computer maximized by not using anti virus or any program that may cause trouble.

The thing with my crashes is for example:

When I launch a stream on discord every tabs goes “not responding” and I have to wait several minutes to get it fixed

It happens as well when I launch a game or any programs.

Maybe I’m overreacting to these but I feel like it shouldn’t since this computer cost me 1000€ and it’s 3 months old

Sorry if I’m not responding to you quickly I’m in France and just woke up

Yeah that’s your PC waiting for the HDD to spin up and send the data

🤣🤣, yup…its 2023 2000gb ssd costs less than 100€ even in Europe! 60-70$ on states…dont get why anyone would get HDD, unless its for pictures or smtv

True. Anyways I’m still grateful because others helped and I would have never figured out the issue was using HDD instead of SSD

it sounds like you run a new build with a spinning hard drive.
don’t do this… get an SSD.
hard drives are great for STORING data not for running operating systems.
technically they used to run on HDD in the past but now a days you really need a sata SSD to provide any kind of speed or snappiness.
