Depends on why he’s interested in an Apple watch. If he’s an athlete or health conscious, some of those extra sensors may be welcome.

If he just wants a watch connected to his phone, then the SE is an excellent alternative.

USB-C is the first feature to tempt me to upgrade, but my 12 is great and entirely comfortable and I already have all the charging stuff, so I may end up waiting another year.
