No, trying to play on my old 1080p TV reminds me why everytime. Upgrading now to a 4k oled and ordered parts for a good pc to feed it.
The deck has definitely turned me off from gaming at my desk upstairs though, it’s so nice to be in the couch near the fireplace, and play on the deck when gf watches tv.
The success of the steam deck is in big part due to the 400$ entry price, to get that low some compromises needed to be made, don’t shoot the messenger.
That’s because by default it runs the linux version which is terrible. If you switch protonGE to experimental it will be the same.
This new game you all oled owners are currently playing looks kinda meh tbh

Textures don’t have much of an impact except vram so you can keep them nice and high, but the rest generally needs to drop on demanding games, shadows, reflections, lighting etc.
I have that on smartphones, so I’m staying away from the oled deck.
Be sure to retest every day for the next year

I’m not nervous, I’m a future oled owner but will wait for valve sorting it and the headphones jack hum first.

I Never order anything when timing is tight. Especially something expensive. I mean, what’s the point? Just order it 3 days before going back home.
Ok I have thoroughly enjoyed rdr2 and gtav, because they ran really well and it fitted the way I play nowadays, in the couch near fireplace, instead of being alone at the desk.
But they look much better on the UW 34" with graphics cranked up, so it’s more a convenience thing than anything else.
I think for what was actually #1 it’s a tossup between Celeste and Katana Zero. They look a lot better on a 7inch screen than a larger one, and are a perfect match for short to mid sessions anywhere.
This amount of PATIENCE right here is overwhelming

Honestly, every single time I start the deck, I think gosh, that backlight bleed is really something…
And as usual as soon as I play I don’t care.
I don’t need/want and oled but there are much nicer ips out there, this one is borderline acceptable tbh. Can’t blame anyone for wanting to upgrade, personally I’d ve upgraded to a superb ips, no question.
One point that is dismissed by almost everyone, is that a few % of the population has serious issues with oled (headaches, bad sleep when looking at it late etc)
If that’s not your case go for oled imo
My experience: sort of.
It served me well for a while to take to a friend’s place we often go to for the WE, or when I get visit, to play together. Because local coop games are mostly indies/pixel art and have no problem running 1080p 60. Playing “it takes 2” is not that great though, rather underpowered for it.
I didn’t find buying a mini pc, even with rdna3, was really worth it, especially as it has no upgrade path. I could live with the deck’s limitations and spare 800, or save for later.
However if you want to play something like rdr2, 720p 30 fps isn’t great on a big tv, you’d be much better served by even a currently super cheap 6600xt and 5600 combo. Same goes for playing 4p mario kart 8 with yuzu.
So I saved for a while and now built a sff m-atx pc around 6700xt and 5600 to game at 1440p 120hz on 4k tv, much better experience and more interesting to me than getting an oled deck, keeping the lcd for travel and when tv is used by gf (still can stream to it, it’s connected with Ethernet to my wifi 6 router so works well)
