I had the PS5 of a day before returning it. Massively underwhelming console, Xbox lasted a bit longer but also underwhelming. I’d go for the steam deck especially if you can get one that cheap and don’t panic about OLED vs LCD it really doesn’t matter

If you’re handy with Linux then maybe you could but I wouldn’t recommend it as a PC replacement. ROG Ally or the Legion Go are basically handheld laptops with windows 11.

Yes you can upgrade the SSD and it takes micro SR cards so no worries there.

If you can afford to get him the OLED version then you win allllll the points. The LCD model is by no means obsolete as some will have you believe. You just get a slightly less colourful screen, a slightly smaller screen, a bit less battery life and it’s a little bit heavier but by no means uncomfortable.

They are both great devices just the OLED one is newer and a bit improved.

Awww maaaaaannn! I just bought my 512gb LCD model for less than the cost of a 64gb model too. I guess it’s just an expensive paperweight come the end of the week the. Damn man.

Normal. They serve two completely different purposes for me. PC for when I’m running high end games that I really want to submerge myself into or Simulators where I need additional equipment. Deck is for playing those smaller games or emulation when I’m sitting on the sofa ignoring the mrs and whatever crap is on the telly.

Why not buy a small 1080p monitor off Amazon, like one of them 15” ones then you can carry on playing your Xbox but can do it somewhere else in the house.

Sounds like you shouldn’t waste your money on buying a more expensive version of a device you’re clearly not overly fond of. Just keep the one you have and wait for the SD2 or whatever Dell or ASUS have coming in the handheld world.

Yeah. Normally I’m a cheap ass and would jump all over the cheaper LCD’s but I think I might actually stump up for the OLED one next week.
