Depends on how you define “tinkering”. I’m a windows user and pc gamer for decades, so while controlling windows with a touch interface can be a bit clunky, it doesn’t feel any different than using a gaming pc.
So for me, it’s more about console vs pc experience and if you are an experienced windows user and own a lot of non-steam games, you could argue, that the ally requires even less tinkering than the steam deck.
