If I was you and dead set on upgrading, the only thing I’d upgrade to is either the 13700k or 14700k since it has more P-cores which will help with gaming, but it probably will be negligible in most games at your resolution. The 13600k/13700k/14600k/14700k also comes with more e-cores (IIRC) but they won’t really make that big of an impact in gaming.
Honestly, I’d just OC the 12600k you have and call it a day if you’re gaming at 4k since you’re mostly going to be bottlenecked at the GPU.
No one knows what performance will be like on 15th gen since it’ll use tiles and a different architecture – the rumors are all over the place from what I’ve read. There might be some weird problems, or it might just be similar to what 14th gen offers today, but with “MOAR coarez” which should help with certain workloads, but probably not much for gaming.
The main benefit I can see from waiting would be that you can drop in 16th gen (probably) and hopefully, by then, whatever issues there may be with 15th gen would be worked out.
I’ve had a few Intel products fail (CPU, NUC) and their warranty process was really painless. When/if they ask if you overclocked the CPU or ran your memory beyond the supported spec (ie: did you enable XMP), just make sure to say no otherwise they can deny your claim as OC’ing is not covered.
Yes. 2 more p-cores, a little more cache, and higher clock speeds can help here and there on some games. For Photoshop, the 13700k will be faster.
The customer header and incompatible mounts to swap out to different fans is a dealbreaker for me. Oh well.
Q3 2024 Financial reports shows total datacenter revenue of $14.51B. I’d assume that there’s some discounting going on at that kind of volume.
By comparison, gaming revenue was $2.86B for Q3 2024.
