Yeah, I think they might be gating AI but I think it would feel a bit silly in practice due to the strong and rising competition that works on all modern iPhones, voice commands and all. Sure, a Siri 2 would be able to integrate into the device and activate features, but that’s basically it and that’s not what has wowed people about AI, or even anything new.
Yeah it’s annoying they don’t do Max/Pro in what is a stationary, large, desktop system because the fucking monitor needs to be so thin. Causes this weird effect where their Mac Mini can be ordered to be more powerful.
But I could bear that myself for my needs. What I just can’t is their 8GB, 256GB, 24" thing. I’ve seen those in person and it’s feeling cramped for someone used to even just 27", and that hard drive is so small that even if I’d go external drive for data, I’d be concerned of my OS and apps filling it up over time so much that it becomes awkward (you should always have at least around 10% free).
AllTrails is a funny one. It’s founded largely on the crowdsourced notes from their community. But I wouldn’t be surprised, even expect, that the developers get 70% of the cut and Apple 30%, none of which have anything to do with this main aspect of the app that is highlighted in the App Store’s “featured app” page.
