Amd has pretty good efficiency. Framework has talked about releasing a case mod to use an older framework battery into a powerbank. One option is go for rzyen 5 with smaller battery and then if not enough life pick up better battery and use the smaller as a bank. My wife has an 11th gen with smaller battery. I iust ordered a ryzen 7 with bigger battery. The 11th gen with smaller battery isnt great but have seen reviews of the ryzen version with much better life.

  • My last laptop was a comically oversized gaming laptop (acer predator helio 700). Had a slide keyboard and rgb up the wazoo. Big loud and almost 0 baterry life. The keyboard stopped working in one spot and the battery cant be replaced. Im sick of disposable laptops and want one that can be fixed, upgraded, and customized. Now with career, kids, etc wanted a much more professional laptop with mobility. With the amd igpu it will be able to some light gaming on the side. Fw13 amd was a dream come true. Guess i will repurpose the old laptop into a desktop for a family member.

Agree with the rest. Clean fans. May need to repaste. Could try firmware updates. Even my wife’s 11th gen doesnt do that. If you can wait another year or two, intel 14th gen are looking promising especially with xe gains. Amd will have an 8000 series that should continue to make gains. However, you do you. At the end of the day, your money. Would never fault anyone for investing more into framework.

Apples to oranges. With mac it will be quieter, better battery and m3 will probably excel in some productivity tasks. For framework you are getting a laptop that every single piece can be upgraded, replaced by the user. I was going to go with macbook. I was waiting for an m3. Then, my current laptop Acer predator, the keyboard failed in one area and battery needed replacing at the same the ryzen version was announced. I couldnt fix the keyboard and the battery is glued down. This sold me on framework. My laptop is now basically a desktop. For me, the ryzen framework fits my uses perfectly. Mostly office, home, light gaming. The mac would as well but i like what framework is doing. I like the innovation, the push for user repairability. I also dont have any apple products. I also the options to switch out bezels, tinker, customize it. Framework has survived the first couple of years and kept good on offering newer gen mobos and parts. I am ready to invest in them. The laptops not perfect but is what i am looking for my use case.

  • I believe the lower i5 and ryzen 5 both come with the smaller battery. Havent seen too many comparisons on those. All the reviews i have seen are comparing the i7 and ryzen 7 with the bigger battery. That might be a factor. I opted for ryzen 7 with bigger battery as consesus is it runs cooler and quieter, has much better igpu (by 50%).
