  • Yeah HomeKit use is definitely worth upgrading and was a big part of me getting an Apple TV when looking for a new streaming device. Also because the latest 4k model 128gb version also has thread on board. It may not be used widely yet, but accessories are starting to trickle out with thread and it’s nice to have a powerful HomeKit hub with thread built in that they could connect to. Camera performance is a lot better with Apple TV as a hub than my HomePod as the hub.

Ecosystem. I had a iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods/beats. I didn’t really need a laptop, but I did need something to replace my old iPad and the M1 also got me pretty excited with how groundbreaking it was. That paired with the fact I got an amazing deal that meant I only had to pay about £750 a couple of months after it released, it was a right place right time kind of purchase.

In all honesty though, the ecosystem stuff doesn’t really contribute much to my use outside of being able to see my iMessage on my computer and controlling my HomeKit devices. I just had very low faith in a long lasting windows device actually existing at that point so thought I’d give MacBook a try, since so many People say they last a very long time before needing replacing. 99% of what I do on my MacBook can be done with an iPad, which is why I’m not buying a new iPad. If I do, my MacBook will be a paperweight.
