I’m still on the fence about getting the steam deck. I’ve never owned a hand held device besides my phone and gameboy. I want to get it but part of me is reluctant.

I’m looking for people to convince me. Not make a decision for me. Some people have convinced me by telling me things I didn’t know about the deck so there’s that.

Check this sub. There is plenty of information on the Deck that might sway you one way or another.

If you don’t buy it small children will point and laugh at you in the street.

Seriously though, what kind of gamer are you? If you have plenty free time for console or PC gaming then maybe not, especially if you’re happy to play phone games to kill time when you’re out the house. If, however, you get only smaller windows of time to game, then SteamDeck is a great buy, especially being able to switch on and immediately be back in your last game you were playing.

I pre-ordered the limited edition and tbh I don’t think it’s worth it for 90% of the people.

It costs almost the same as the Lenovo legion Go which is having its bugginess patched next month.

And the steam deck also has far worse specs than the Go.

I mean, the hardware on the steam deck is already on its way out the door

If you’re on the fence, maybe consider one of the cheaper LCD options. It’s a good device still. I used mine to play rdr2 at work on my lunch break, then I started tinkering with ps2 and Nintendo switch emulation. Played God of war 2 last time I got stuck in an airport. Ended up playing through a whole bunch of assassins creed games I had on ps5 over the chiaki app.played games I streamed from my main gaming PC too. Also brought it with me to holiday parties to play jackbox party games.

If you have to convince yourself you need it, you’re going to regret your purchase. You’re setting up an expectation for the deck and if it falls short, that’s when buyers remorse kicks in.

Some of the best purchases I’ve ever made were things I bought knowing full well I wanted it, not needed it. When you accept your purchase is a luxury, you don’t feel forced into seeing an immediate return on your investment. You enjoy it for what it is and enjoy it at your own pace.

Long story short, if you want it, buy it. Take your time. Also I wouldn’t recommend packing it to the gills with games immediately. Install them and play them one at a time. It’s more enjoyable that way I think.
