Hi,

I’m considering buying an S23 Ultra as I’m seeing some good deals online. To give you an idea, I don’t upgrade my phones often. I’m still using my OnePlus 7 from 2019, and my general rule is to not spend more than €800 on a smartphone. I’m seeing some good deals online, including one for €915, so I’m considering extending my budget a bit. I’m really tempted.

However, I’ve seen the Qualcomm announcements about the SD 8 gen 3 last month, along with a Xiaomi 14 Pro review. I am now wondering if I should get an S23 Ultra now, or wait until January or so and buy an S24/S24+ for about the same price. The idea is to keep the device for as long as possible, so having an extra year of software updates would be appreciated. With that said, I have many uses for my phone, but the two most important factors are battery life and photo quality (I just went on a safari and got disappointed by the OnePlus 7 picture quality when shooting from distance).

Thanks

We don’t know anything for sure about the S24 series and the SD 8 Gen 3 chip. Could be good, could be as bad as the S22 series.

We know everything about the S23 series, it is excellent for energy efficiency, battery life and it is powerful enough for everything you will want to throw at it.

Though, I would say that if you are serious about photography, don’t use a smartphone.

You should def wait to get a S24 Ultra. As you are already aware of, the SD 8 Gen 3 is better than the SD 8 Gen 2 in terms of both CPU and GPU performances while improving or at least maintaining the efficiency, and another key thing is that the NPU has vastly improved in the SD 8 Gen 3 as well which means the S24 Ultra will be the first one to support the on-device generative AI stuff unlike the S23 Ultra.

Unless you are a hardcore gamer I would get the S23U now given the great deals that you can find. It’s fast enough and very power efficient. S24U will not get a lot of new stuff so you will be good

The gen 3 seems to be a plus version of the gen2 but to squeeze more power the heat and throttling is ehh i think its fine to stick with gen2

So if your budget is around 900 then you should def get S23ultra on cheap.

Cause even if the Gen 3 is better, the pricing on the phones that have it wont be anything less then 1100 euro for like 7/8 months.

So if you want to wait a year then dont .

Byt trust me s23 ultra under 1000 euro is a huge win. Huge.

Nope nope nope Samsung sucks. But if you want to buy 1200 for outdated software and pathetic future upgrade timelines go for it.
