Since the massive 25th anniversary update added Deck support, I was wondering if anyone has been playing it and what your thoughts are on how it feels on the Deck.

I’m a long-time PC gamer and I’ve played this series many times through. I always struggle with FPSes on controllers and have thus far not been able to find a flow with the Deck’s trackpads.

I’ve been messing with HL1 on Deck and having a hard time with it not feeling super natural. Has anyone been playing it on the Deck and if so, how are you finding it?

    Tried it but couldn’t move. Reinstalling helped with that but now the Use Key (X) won’t work at all. Tried remapping, changing layouts but nothing will make it work

    I’ve been having a good experience playing the game on deck, I do useboth gyro and trackpads with the ability to select weapons through trackpad clicks. I would recommend trying it out, and even though I don’t personally like having it on I would also recommend turning aim assist on.

    enable gyro (set to always on) and flick stick. auto aim can be useful but not absolutely essential.

    I’ve been loving it. Played HL2 / Ep1 & 2 when I first got my deck, but original was unplayable. Now it all just works tho and I’m having so much fun. Movement speed is a tad fast!

    I play through the whole game back when it wasn’t fully verified. Now with the new control scheme, I keep accidentally quick saving and quick loading whenever I want to use my flashlight.

    You may find my recommended Trackpad settings guide helpful. There is also a linked video that goes into more detail.

    I’m like you in that I mostly played FPS with keyboard/mouse before, and struggled at first on the Deck, until I found the right scheme. I do not think the default layouts are good at all.

    Just tried it with the official Valve input settings and the left joystick isn’t doing anything at all. Am I missing something?
