Ok so im not sure what all the “other” in my internal storage is, i already looked up that i should get a disk space analyzer and use that to clean it up. So im planning to do that in a bit.

My main question is if i can uninstal all these proton things, like the experiential, 7.0, 8.0.

I dont have any games on internal, its just the proton stuff, steam linux runtime 1.0(scout) and 2.0 (soldier), and steamworks common redistributables. I got no idea what they are tbh but they sound kinda important.

I think i started messing around with it when i used my deck to play BG3 on vacation but i forgot what the normal proton is or if i need them at all. So would i be okay getting rid of all of them or should i keep one in particular?

I mostly worried because one time i had such low storage that i had to do the factory reset with the external usb thing and that was not fun at all, and i think it happened because i went from desktop to game mode or vice versa with low interal space. So im mostly trying to prevent that and get rid of all the “other” in my internal storage.

    In my experience the protons let you run certain games. Best thing to do would be to just use the disk analyser to clear some games and move some games to an SD card

    I’m also in a similar situation, and have no clue how to navigate it. I’m assuming it’s from shaders and proton compatibility stuff, hope we find an answer soon.

    They are. Proton is what you need to play games. Linux runtimes are the core system OS. Common redistributables are the dependencies your games need to run. You can’t really get rid of any of them except *possibly* proton versions you’re sure you don’t use.

    Other storage = anything that isn’t steam games, proton versions (ie proton 8, proton 7-02, etc - your game’s specific proton prefixes still count as other data), and shaders.

    This means cryoutilties’ giant 15gb swap file if you use the default settings on that. It means non-steam games. It means logs in desktop mode. It means discover apps. It means everything, essentially. Filelight or disk usage analyzer will help you sniff out what exactly is taking up your room, so you can decide if you want to delete whatever it is.
