I’ve used iPhones all my life and am currently using the iPhone 8 (regular, not plus). I want to switch to a Samsung Galaxy phone but have no idea which to pick. I’m looking for something affordable, since the camera quality and storage space will already be way better than the iPhone 8’s. What do y’all recommend? Also I use Verizon so I’m open to trade in deals or anything like that.

I got an S23 ultra myself and love it but I know those don’t come cheap even with deals one may get, so I got to say the s23 or s23 fe depending on deals available in the US for you. I would also just like to remind that by around February we should see Samsung’s s24 line if you at all want to wait and see what’s different but by then there likely won’t be as much deals if any with the holidays having passed. I do imagine without reading into anything this very minute the changes planned for this generation are minor probably.

However, I do know some like Samsung themselves can offer some good incentives if you trade-in a device at preorder time especially too (at least they did for me here in Canada when switching from an older device but I imagine experiences can vary). My s23 ultra as an example came with free galaxy buds 2 pro earbuds, they let me double the storage to 512gb for no extra cost, have 50% off any accessories like the 45w charger I had bought as well as offering a $482 Cad / 352 US trade-in for my s10 when my carrier would have only gave me $50. They also would let me have a $50 discount on any Galaxy watch purchased with the phone if I did wish to choose that.

a good start is the samsung s23

or the s23 ultra if you want one of the best cameras, and the spen

or the Z fold3 or Zfold 5 (i started using a used Zfold 2, the big screen and multitasking is very cool)

current promo with verizon is $800 off on a mid-high tier plan, with a mid-high tier trade-in (unfortunately, the iphone 8 is a low tier phone, but you could get a mid tier $100 pixel 4a or a nokia 8 V 5g, and use those as a trade-in)

For budget flagship - A54 if you want software support, and S21U if you don’t care about that

For all-out monster: S23U, absolutely goated.

For low budget: A14, seriously decent value for 189

For some middle ground: S23 FE or S23

A54 it’s not budget flagship,it’s a midrange phone that it’s expensive and doesn’t worth it. Basically in W years you change the. Phone because it will be so slow

A54 is the best of both worlds. I was on the S series and switched to the A series when S removed the microsd card. Now I get a free phone every 2 years from my carrier instead of spending $500 each upgrade. It is slightly slower than the S series, Exynos vs Snapdragon, so you see a difference on high end gaming but that’s about it, everything else is fine. Video streaming and the camera is as good as anything Samsung has and better than Apple.

I like to load up my phone like a computer so I demand the microsd card, that basically means Samsung A series, some Pixelles and some Sonys, but my carrier gives me the A series for free so life is good. Guaranteed 4 android version upgrades so up to Android 17 (we’re on 13).

If you grab a free phone now you can always upgrade later, but its a good way to get used to a new platform which is what you are doing. I agree the other series are not worth it, either S23 ultra or A54.

Wait for the S24 to release (should be out in a few months) and get that or the S23 generation before at a discount.

Or check out Google Pixel, they are pretty nice.

Stick with iPhone or pixel. Samsung build quality is garbage and their support is outsourced to the Phillipines and is garbage. At least with iphone you can take it to an apple store. The Samsung 'experience ’ stores aren’t helpful.

Regular S23 or S23 FE are the two best “affordable” flagship Samsung phones you can get at the moment. S23 FE is going to be a bit cheaper, with some trade offs, while with the regular S23, you’ll get the full flagship experience comparable to the latest iPhone.

Samsung phones, only hard rule is never get anything other than the S series. Even S series phones from a couple of years ago will be better than the latest mid-range phones.

Do not get anything from the budget series, including the FE series. It’s like recommending the iPhone Mini if someone asks for a iPhone recommendation. Probably worse.

Anything in the S series is good.

Don’t touch the flip and fold - They are outdated tech compared to the rest of the world. Wait for some refresh.

I would only suggest the fold or flip if you are upgrading from an average Samsung phone. They had a great trade in value on release. I have a flip5 and it’s been great.

But if you are coming to Samsung from apple, get the S23

you could go for the s23, plus or ultra, depending on how big you need it (that’s what she said). The Nothing Phone is also a good option imo, because you live in the US and with that whole green/blue Bubble fiasco.

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are also a good pick if you want to stay with Apple, they are solid, USB-C now and a good pick too. But very pricy obviously.

I’d go with the Nothing Phone 2, maybe you can get a black friday deal on it.
