I had a dream last night that my brand new fancy Steam Deck OLED had arrived and I opened it immediately only to be horrified that it was such a sunny day that all I could see on the screen was my own face reflected back at me. I was absolutely kicking myself over getting the 512GB instead of the 1TB version all because of a potentially more vibrant screen. I was researching the returns policy on Decks and then I woke up.

To clarify, I haven’t ordered a Deck OLED yet and am still debating in whether it will even be worth it considering I sold my OG Deck due to lack of use. Obviously the while screen debate is something that my brain has latched onto.

I was not set on buying the Oled, because I already have a regular one, but someone mentionned they had a special edition with a clear shell and I purchased it instantly. I’m a child of the 1990s, I love clear electronics.

I’ve seen some people online who opened their Deck and it feeling less solid after (e.g. looser sticks). For devices this valuable I don’t think it’s worth risking opening them up unless it’s to repair something. I learned my lesson opening joycons, what a nightmare that was for my butterfingers.

I didn’t even realize it was a transparent shell until a few hours after I placed the order and then was reading a Kotaku (or some other such site, I don’t recall) article about what a shit show the website was on release, and it specifically mentioned the transparent shell.

I don’t know how I didn’t see that at all beforehand, but I’m stocked about it, cause I was in the same place, I wanted to do a jsaux shell swap but was too nervous about fucking it up lol
