I always knew home button was important to me which is why I held out in the hope it would come back. (Apple store guy laughed when I asked). The 8 plus was working perfectly fine for my needs, but the picture quality while decent, pushed me to make the switch.
Anyway, my two biggest issues:
-
I use my phone placed face up either on my desk or bathroom counter a few inches away, while writing or doing skincare, etc. Home button allowed me to extend my hand and unlock it with my finger print. Now I have to pick it up and point it towards me, which is more annoying than I thought.
-
With the home button i could unlock my phone and arrive at my homescreen in one gesture. Now i have to click the lock screen button and then swipe up. That’s two gestures. It’s irritating when it was easier earlier. Is there a workaround to this?
Anyway, this is just me venting about missing a beloved feature. Was expecting 1) but not 2)
Hope i get used to it soon. Any advice/ tips are welcome.
Cheers.
Give it time. I could never go back.
You can just tap the screen to turn on the phone, you don’t need to press the sleep / wake button.
Also if you have raise to wake turned on you can just pick up the phone and swipe up to go home.
You don’t need have the phone pointed at you for it to unlock. If you turn off require attention for Face ID it makes it a lot easier.
I also never use the lock button to unlock my iPhone. Just tap the screen and swipe up. You shouldn’t even have to wait for the phone to “unlock” it’s so quick.
You’ll adjust. It will be fine. You could go back and read 10,000 posts from 6 years ago and see that all those people adjusted just fine.
When I switched from my 8 to a 12 it took a few weeks to get used to it but now I’d never go back.
I’m with you (and apparently not in agreement with most of these comments, but to each their own). I just went from the SE 2 to the 3, because I like the size of the phone (not fond of huge phones, even though the screen is bigger), and I much prefer the Home button. It looks like the SE 3 will be the last iPhone with the Home button, so eventually I’ll probably have to upgrade to one without it.
I also have a work-issued XR, but I hate Face ID and have it disabled on it, so I have to put in the passcode every time I want to unlock the phone; but since I don’t have to use the phone that much, I deal with it.
Second day with Iphone 15 plus after a lifetime of android: “I think I made a mistake” /Tomorrow is my third week with the Iphone: “I am not going back dammit, I love my Iphone”
The only thing I couldn t let go was the Android keyboard which I managed to get it for free in the App store.
Give it time, you ll get used to it.
Hahah you’ll get used to it.
