Taki compares the glossy and anti-reflective screen of the Steam Deck OLED and considers the etched glass superior if your budget allows for it Discussion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYtRGQdhytc

I just watched the entire video, and Taki has shut down the entire internet with his argument. So much criticism has been directed at the anti-reflective panel, yet it turns out to look exactly the same in darkness and under normal indoor lighting conditions. Blacks, colors, everything is identical. It’s only when you reflect your face, your window, or a light directly onto the screen that the areas around the light source lose a bit with the anti-reflective panel. On the other hand, with the glossy screen, the reflected area is not visible, and you can’t enjoy the full image on your screen.

The same happens outdoors, for instance, under a tree with sunlight. The glossy screen is very bothersome because it constantly shows more reflections than the actual game. So, having slightly deeper blacks is pointless due to this issue. In contrast, he says that with the anti-reflective screen, you can still comfortably play despite challenging conditions, and the reflections are not annoying.

He then recommends that you buy the one that interests you based on your budget, but he essentially positions the anti-reflective option as superior because it is identical under normal conditions and offers the extra benefit of being playable in challenging conditions.

I already warned about the misinformation from the dubious figure with the last name ‘Daved,’ who was spreading misinformation across the internet. Many of you fell for this misinformation, believing that you were purchasing a superior screen, which was absolutely false. If you are going to buy the 512 model, do it based on accurate information, not this fake news that has been circulating for two weeks on the internet.

He also looks at the code for both versions to see which panels each one uses. Both use Samsung panels, not BOE, which is the alternative.

He measures color gamut and brightness in both, and the pattern repeats from LCD models: the anti-reflective one has a slightly higher color gamut, and the glossy one has slightly higher brightness.

There you have the summary.

I got the 512GB cause I already own a 2TB ssd I’ll just swap in. It seemed like either one you went with, you could always just throw on either a glossy screen protector or a matte screen protector to fix whatever issues occur.

If they’re both the same panel at the end of the day, further updates will probably even out the field even more.

This is a reasonable take for sure.

I got the LE because I don’t have a Steam Deck already and 512gb is too little space.

My reasoning is this: 1tb is good enough for now plus a 512gb SD card I have to throw in there. I don’t want to get a 512gb and gave to immediately open up my brand new device, possibly damaging it, and spend the same as the difference between the two devices to buy a 2tb SSD and then have a 512gb SSD I have no use for sitting around. Plus I want the LE colorway and etched screen. As a new Steam Deck owner, there’s plenty of justification.
