Hi, just friendly reminder, that this scam is still going and trying luck on discord (ať least for me). Scenario is going like this: Somebody contacts you with message about your account. He accidentaly reported it and steam support is not going to help. So he tell you to contact someone on discord, 100% genuine steam support staff. Later with “steam support staff” you go thru proces of verification of account (sending few screenshots). Loging off from all devices, Steam Deck included, and then he tells you to forward him confirmation code from SMS, or remove phone number from steam acc, or confirm request in steam guard (i have gone thru all of it, before he figured out that i am just wasting his time) Do not send him anything.

      Fourth rule on scam prevention: NEVER send any verification code send to you or generated by an app. Valve or any other company support will EVER ask for it.

    Always always take a pause before doing anything and don’t feel rushed. That’s when stupid kicks in. Also contact support via any sensible methods not suggested by the scammer that are under your control or official channels.

    I actually like it when these guys msg me on discord. I like to pretend it’s the other way around and that I won’t accidentally report them while they keep trying to explain it’s the other way. Wastes quite a lot of their time.

    i have only received one scam message like this. the person on the other end of the discord message somehow found out my discord name and definitely sent me a picture of my steam profile. i immediately blocked them and changed my passwords for good measure. never heard from them again

    Just a note, any real support staff have access to view your account to a certain degree.

    You will never ever have to provide your verification number from SMS or steam guard to a support staff.

    Yeah had this happen to me. I just ignored the guy and all the messages he sent. I knew it was crap as soon as I saw “Discord” being brought up .
