Easy way to test this:

  • take a screenshot where the status bar is visible
  • rotate the screen to landscape then back to portrait (do it 5 times so the elements drift for a significant amount of pixels)
  • open the screenshot in Samsung Gallery

The status (and navigation) bar overlapping your screenshot should be visible, and you should be able to notice whether the status bar elements have moved their position. In One UI 6 they are static no matter what you do.

This is bad on OLED screens as they will degrade uneven in that area. I have reported this problem to Samsung, but you should do it as well in order to raise as much awareness as possible so it gets fixed ASAP.

Note: Oddly enough, burn in protection works fine for the navigation bar.

    Did you screenshot every time you rotated? Because I just did it 3 times on my OneUI 5 S23U, and on the third time it was the same as before, but the first and second rotate were both different.

    This is why I use goodlock to just hide everything. I had no idea there was burn in protection though. Wish they made it more well known. Imo there should be burn in protection for most static things and it should be a priority for coders. Fkn games that have static HUDS for example.

      They probably adjusted the PPI scaling in developer options along with the overall font size if anything.

      But I can’t say for sure because I can’t tell that it’s actually smaller. But if I were going to do it, that would be the way I’d try.

    My status bar completely disappeared few days ago. Only when you open an app it would shop up. I had to restart the phone to get it back.

    Install SystemUI Tuner and create a quick toggle to show or hide the statusbar, problem solved and you get back a few millimeters of screen as a bonus

    Maybe they decided moving the elements was unnecessary? Testing on my own phone it seems like there are places that are almost always lit regardless of how they move around (Clock, Mute and Battery icon don’t move enough to not overlap). And before getting rid of my previous Z Flip 3 (which I got on launch and got rid of on the launch of the Z Flip 5) I tested and there wasn’t even the slightest hint of burn in. My Pixel 3a had it really bad in no time. Maybe there’s something else going on under the hood? Reduced brightness of those elements? - by default they’re on a black background, so they don’t need to be super bright. Maybe OneUI 5 had the alternative mitigation but still moved the icons until they could prove whatever else they were doing was working but with OneUI 6 they’re happy that alternative mitigation is enough? In my opinion, unless we see phones with status bar burn we can’t say this is actually an issue.

      The burn in prevention is still in place for the navigation bar. If it was deemed as unnecessary, wouldn’t they have disabled it altogether?

    how much burn in protection does this give?

    How often are you going to leave your screen at your homescreen for 8 hours at a time? You’ll have to deliberately disable the screensaver AND the lock screen to force a burn-in.

    If you want to do something that the manufacturer did not create the phone to do, and you break it, it’s not really the manufacturer’s problem is it?

    This is not a PSA, it’s creating misunderstanding and confusion.

    I tested in my galaxy s22+ and I confirm no burn in protection in the status bar. Already sent report through samsung members app.
    I hope that they get this fixed soon.
