I’ve been researching TVs to replace my 10 year old plasma and most reviews are saying 120hz is what you want for gaming.
Are there any models that you recommend or not specifically for steam deck? I’ll be using it mostly with deck in dock mode
If you have a modern console then 120hz is nice to have- and the Deck can definitely run some older/lightweight/indie titles as 120fps at a decent resolution, but for the vast majority it probably isn’t required given the Deck’s power.
Other things to look out for are low input latency and VRR. Rtings is a great place to start!
The deck is the most modern console I have, last one I bought was Xbox 360
If you’re using it just for the steam deck then simple answer is no. Lcd steam deck is 60hz and oled is 90hz. Fps is a seperate metric to refresh rate. I’d save the money and get a 60hz panel.
This is bad advice. A TV with VRR would be great for the steam deck.
So one of the newer TVs will make docked mode more viable.
I wouldn’t recommend a TV solely for the steam deck, you’re better off with a monitor for the money. Unless you need a new TV in general.
I’m replacing a 2010 era Panasonic plasma, it’s def time !
I would be wary of recommending monitors since they don’t have built-in upscalers for the Deck’s 720p resolution. If you want to get a monitor, I recommend a 1440p so it scales well.
There are a lot of of TVs on the market that support VRR and id highly recommend one of those if you are going to do a lot of docked play. That will greatly help you get a lot more out of docked mode.
Meta Quest 3, use it as a virtual screen.
