This title screen brought me right back to the first time I played it as a kid… Half-Life was one of the first cinematic feeling games, and this feels like the perfect way to replay it 25 years later.

I’m 90% done with the campaign and beat it this go round entirely on the deck/with a controller. It’s not perfect but it definitely still holds up and plays well!

Yeah I snagged Half-Life on the sale plus a couple of others.
I was hoping for big discounts on the newer AAA games like Hogwarts and Starfield but not so far…

Nah no mods necessary. The first part will feel a little slow but stick with it and remember that these were the quake days, so people talking, acting things out in front of you, etc. was all brand new. So the game sort of revels in that for the first half an hour to an hour.

But it’s also a great atmospheric and combat game, and so it really picks up once shit hits the fan. Hope you enjoy it!

It seems to me that this limited edition steam deck was really meant to be a half life special edition based on the timing of the 25th anniversary of half life and the orange palette.

I couldn’t figure it out, couldn’t bring up the menu and save, but at least I got to watch that opening sequence again.

Much better. The OG thumbsticks were some of the worst I’ve used on a controller to be honest (they were too slippery and too flat). The OLED ones are a bit concave and have a grippy material now.

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow, no LE though since I live in Sweden but I’m looking forward to it nevertheless (1TB model)

Buggy as hell on the Deck, in my experience. The lighting is completely busted, but it may be a Proton issue that I can’t be arsed to research and fix.

I never played Half-Life 1 (Deus-Ex was my first real FPS love). I did play HL2 though (but never finished it). I want to play them both when my new OLED arrives. Should I just play 1, then 2? Or Black Mesa first, then 2?

I’d still strongly recommend 1. The game starts slow and feels dated but once it gets going the atmosphere and combat is still top notch.
