  • I use mine entirely stock, mostly cuz I just dont feel the need to add anything to it.

dude valve is a multibillion dollar company that probably spent millions in R&D over the course of a decade to make the ideal handheld.

why the fuck would I ruin that that with cheap ass cash grab accessories? it works fine out of the box.

I dont need to mount a whole ass hard drive mounted to it, I dont need my entire fucking steam library at any given time. i dont need some third party heat sync to fuck up the thermals that valve thoroughly tested to make sure it works oob. I dont need mounts for 14" screens cuz thats obnoxious and it has a perfectly good screen built in. I dont need to play video games for 8 hours straight a day, the battery is mostly sufficient for my use case (it could be better, but a clunky mounted external battery is not the solution). I dont want some big rubber case along the outside its big enough already.

    yeah, its good as is.

only accessories I can get behind are screen protectors and stuff to customize it. the different color panels and buttons are cool. I just wouldnt want to replace the stock panel with a third party part that is a structurally weaker plastic, thats the only thing that worries me. I’d like to get a second deck to do these kinda customizations to.

edit: actually one thing I think I wouldnt mind having is a replacement rear panel that has a stand build in like the switch or the surface pro tablets… that would be cool. its not a huge deal though since the only two places I play my deck at I have stand/docks for it.

  • thats… sort of what they’re doing.

they’re making sure there is a fall back. it means Microsoft cant go full dystopian control (though they seem to inch closer and closer with every new installment of windows)

their investment into linux is so steam can have a home thats not under Microsoft thumb. before linux gaming was more viable, valve was entirely at Microsoft mercy.

it also just seems to be in their nature. Valve as a company was made because Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington wanted to leave their current jobs working for Microsoft. It seems to be their destiny to an opposing force.

I just don’t see how the ps thing gets an 8 out of 10.

standard lcd panel, no Bluetooth support, no cell data, noticeable latency. It’s basically a big controller with a dumb screen in the middle for more than double the cost of the controller.

I’ve read a cheap android tablet with a controller mount is a better solution. How does this get an 8/10? the lock down to their wireless headset is enough for me to give this a fat zero/10 just so Sony doesn’t get the idea in their head that they can get away with that bullshit.

walled garden hardware is such an anti-consumor thing to do, especially with wireless headphones… Something that has been standardized for years

  • I never thought I’d see the day Linux would be simpler and friendlier than Windows but here we are.

thing is, I feel like linux usually IS easier and simpler if you’re starting off from the point of it already being setup for you.

where people find windows easier is usually 1) they have a bunch of tribal knowledge and figure out how to fix things cuz they’re not starting from zero and thus thats easier for them and 2) dev/software support is greater so finding a solution for a problem on windows usually just involves installing the manufacture app vs finding a community solution.
