Wanna play spiderman, halo , god of war and Forza horizon, and anything emulated on a single console? With minimal technical know how?

Such a smart move by Valve. They’ve converted me into a pc gamer first, and a steam gamer as well.

I subscribe to the theory that Valve is trying to break the Windows monopoly on pc gaming by showing that Linux is a viable gaming operating system.

thats… sort of what they’re doing.

they’re making sure there is a fall back. it means Microsoft cant go full dystopian control (though they seem to inch closer and closer with every new installment of windows)

their investment into linux is so steam can have a home thats not under Microsoft thumb. before linux gaming was more viable, valve was entirely at Microsoft mercy.

it also just seems to be in their nature. Valve as a company was made because Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington wanted to leave their current jobs working for Microsoft. It seems to be their destiny to an opposing force.

It has been the endgame ever since the first iteration of Proton and the Steam Machines.

Microsoft has tossed around the idea of locking Windows into their own game store and of course Valve hates that idea, so they developed Proton and SteamOS. As soon they got mature and ready for general use, they released a handheld as an introduction for these features. Now they have a way out of Windows should they need it.

It is a really smart move which ensures their survival in the long haul.

It’s more that if Valve doesn’t, they are at the absolute mercy of Microsoft not turning around and forcing the UWP apps and Microsoft/Xbox store on all Windows customers and locking out Steam by default, etc.
