Really want the new steam deck. But I’m also use to gaming on a 4090 desktop and 4080 laptop so I know the performance experience won’t be enjoyable for AAA. But is it worth getting the deck for older games? Or at that point do I just stick to the switch?

Sell the switch, play the switch games on the deck. I’m enjoying ToTK and Smash Ultimate now.

The question is just to know if you really need or want a handheld gaming PC and are ready to make compromises for this.

A gaming laptop doesn’t offer much in term of mobile gaming. It’s merely a gaming PC which is easy to put in a backpack but will require to be set on a table and plugged to an outlet.

A Steam Deck will let you play for about 3 hours on its battery and won’t require a table. It’s a much more mobile device.

For my part I absolutely hate gaming in a static place. I play in the kitchen, on an armchair, on the sofa, in my bed, in the train, in the hôtel … Steam Deck is a blessing … FOR ME.

Actually more if a reason. Stream your pc to your deck. Enjoy the sweet maxed graphics from your couch

I have a pc for VR gaming and iracing, a gaming laptop which is bulky and unsuitable for my train trips not to mention the short battery life running a dedicated gpu. The switch games pricing is prohibitive for me and the switch doesn’t support my ar glasses without extra hardware. I use the steam deck for all my steam library games because it is light, portable and gives me 4 hrs playtime between charges with the games I am playing. It also works out of the box with my ar glasses so for me, totally worth it.
