10 minutes of flight time, firing without cover on the battlefield, tanks of fuel mounted on your back on the battlefield. Seems like a brilliant plan in search of a disaster.

If you read the article you would know that ship to ship interdiction is the planned use scenario. Fly from one ship to another that your boarding and the troops drop off and transition to using a rifle and go about ship clearing in the traditional manner. In doing so the troops will be airborne for 2-3 mins max with the only danger being that your vulnerable approaching the ship and on landing. This brief period is where the tracking auto pistol comes in.

To me these jetpacks are no more vulnerable that traditional ship to ship transitions. You can still be shot the fuck up when approaching the ship in a RIB to board the ship via a rope ladder or rappelling from a helicopter. The disadvantage of using both those methods is you’re dropping those troops off or having them board in a single location, unless you use another helicopters or RIB’s but even then your only increasing your insertion points by one.

Using jetpacks you can have all your troops land simultaneously anywhere on the ship.
