Like the title says, I have been considering a steam deck recently, but I am very on the fence, and I wanted to ask before I purchased because I have seen people post their buyers remorse on here, and well, you guys are ruthless defenders of the steam deck, let’s just say that.

I guess I should start by explaining what I want or expect. If I am honest, I just want the ability to play PC games on the move. The thing is, though playing sub-60 fps is a hard sell for me, are there many AAAs that run at 60 without the lowest possible setting and dialling down the resolution? I seem to find conflicting answers.
I also really want to get into emulated gaming, which at the moment is the biggest reason I’m drawn to the Steam Deck. This seems to be the Steam Deck’s saving grace; it performs (from what I can see) exceptionally well as an emulator. All of this being said, I’m still on the fence. Tell me your pros and cons and what you think. :) <3

Some titles simply won’t hit 60 fps no matter what, the cpu isn’t powerful enough and lowering the resolution won’t help.

Like elden ring runs at 35-40 fps with everything on high but only 45ish fps with everything on low.

Sub 60 on modern triple A is expected. If it’s an open world you’re not gonna go past 30-40 fps. On the other hand, low settings isn’t a big deal on a 7" screen. Unless it’s something related to the lighting or foliage density i can barely tell the difference from my desktop which can run everything on high-ultra.

Nice to know thanks :) Yeah I figured new AAAs would be unreachable for the hardware do you know how it holds up for older titles? Skyrim, GTA ect?

Then you’re wanting a laptop. All of the handhelds on the market struggle to reliably reach 60fps on modern AAA games, and the ones that do it need to run on minimum settings with heavy upscaling.

Its not going to get 60FPS in new AAAs but older ones potentially with a mix of settings. Definitely worth it for emulation also game streaming is a another option though that depends on your wifi of course so its not a fully portable solution if you were on a plane for instance. Buy it and see worst case scenario you can just return it.

Found the onexplayer 2 pro going to go with that, way more pricey but its ability to play demanding games on the go is very impressive. :) appreciate all the comments
